Convict’s Story

I rescued Convict on Black Friday in November 2017 from ASPCA in Independence, MO. Convict was only 11 months old at the time. He was free on Black Friday due to the superstitions of all black animals being bad luck, and that he was labeled aggressive, making him usually impossible to adopt out.

I went not looking for a pet but going with my aunt to find a cat for her to adopt. However I looked through all the animals and just when I was about to head out I rounded a darker isolated corner of the kennel area and there I saw an adorable black lab just going to town playing in his water bucket. He saw me play bowed and barked at me like he wanted to play.

I asked him if he wanted to go home with me and he barked again. So I asked for a meet and greet, they tried to talk me out of taking him home due to it being late and the shelter was about to close and he was labeled as aggressive. I insisted, and he loved me immediately just as much as I immediately loved him. I took him home that night.

That is how he got his name because he was finally free from the bars of the puppy jail. He did have issues with random men and dogs but for the most part he was a cuddle bug loving dog.

He has traveled with me across the entire continental US from the Missouri River all the way to the California West coast. Since adopting, me and my husband have spent a lot of money on professional trainers specializing in reactive dogs. Convict now runs up lovingly to all people and most dogs.

We have been so very lucky that this is the first large medical issue Convict has ever had.

This is a story of a dog who looked like he would never have a good outcome to one that found a loving safe and happy home. I can’t imagine my life without Convict in it.

Not Asking For Donations

At this time I am not asking for donations. I would much rather earn these fund by providing my artistic skills. While most my stock has limited quantities I have temporarily opened up unlimited slots for my Doodle Commission Proxies/Tokens. These are whimsical doodle alters where I turn bulk cards that would normally be used into beloved game pieces once again. You can ask for custom doodle cards or simply purchase them without filling out the form to get a random mystery doodle alter. All funds collected from the sale of these and any other purchases on my site will be going towards The Convict Surgery Fund.
