Why was I even sent here? Cast from my home to fight a never ending war. Only reason is we have to. It’s what we were born for. I stopped hearing her voice long ago. She used to always be a guiding light to keep our fighting spirit up. We often talk about if we are still fighting a war that may have already ended long ago back home. We have no way to return without her. She was in another plane after all. 

We still would pray every night hoping to return home to see our families. It’s been a thousand years. We have since had to hide our wings and try to integrate into the human world. Having to restart our “lives” when people thought it weird we showed no signs of age. Luckily even if we run out of towns we have visited by the time we make it back around a few generations have come and gone. No one to remember us.

Our troop has long split up to hide more easily. Occasionally meeting one of my sisters in passing. It’s always a bitter sweet meeting. Happy to see one another and hallowing to know we are all still stuck here. Doomed to watch empires rise and fall. Now more than ever it is pertinent to hide. 

The new empire is run by a demon lord and they are growing in power far beyond what our now dwindled army could ever handle. I make my regular visit to the last temple of my goddess. Now in ruins no one left to pray but me and my sisters. I kneel down. Looking up at the sun creeping through a hole in the ceiling. 

After a millennium I finally received an answer.
